Complex animal models of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, obesity, aging) for proof-of-concept studies:
  •   myocardial infarction and ischemia/reperfusion (we use our newly developed software for infarct size evaluation infarctsize™ 1.0)
  •   cardioprotection and heart failure

Evaluation of compounds acting on the nitric oxide-cGMP system and peroxynitrite formation, e.g. peroxynitrite scavengers
Measurements: NO (electron spin resonance spectroscopy), NO synthase (NOS) activities, cGMP production, superoxide formation, peroxynitrite formation, in vitro peroxynitrite scavenger assays, MDA, etc.

Effects of cardioprotective compounds on myocardial ischemia, preconditioning, doxorubicin-induced heart failure, and vascular functions in hyperlipidemia/atherosclerosis and nitrate-tolerance models.
Measurements: plasma lipids, cardiac function, infarct size, vascular flow, myocardial enzyme release, histomorphologic changes, electrohpysiology, arrhythmias, and any biochemical parameters in diet-induced rat and rabbit models and transgenic mice models of experimental hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and nitrate-tolerance.

Evaluation of antidiabetic componds in type 1 and type 2 diabetic models (STZ, Goto-Kakizaki, Zucker Diabetic Fatty, etc).
Measurements: glucose, insulin, pancreatic insulin, peptide C, HgbA1c, etc.

Evaluation of cardiac heat-shock protein (HSP) inducers.
Measurements: cardiac hsp mRNA and HSP protein contents in ischemia/reperfusion or heat stress, Hsp transgenic models.

Evaluation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitors.
Measurements: MMP activities and protein contens in vivo and ex vivo. In vitro MMP inhibition assays.

Evaluation of cardioprotective and/or antiarrhythmic compounds in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion or preconditioning in isolated heart, in vivo rodent models.
Measurements: cardiac function, infarct size, arrhythmias, enyzme release, high energy phosphates, histomorphology, electrophysiology, biochemical analysis of heart tissue and perfusate for any targets of your choice.

Assessment of the antioxidant efficacy of cardiovascular drugs by means of direct detection of oxygen free radicals and nitric oxide with electron spin resonance spectroscopy in ischemia/reperfusion.
Measurements: oxygen free radical production, pro- and antioxidant enzyme activities

Chronic heart failure model of in vivo coronary artery occlusion plus isolated rat heart for evaluation of chronic administration of cardioprotective drugs.
Measurements: cardiac function, infarct size, and histomorphologic changes in working hearts isolated from rats subjected to in vivo permanent ligation of the main coronary artery.
